Self-Portrait consists of an illuminated form covered by a translucent membrane. The artist produces this material by brushing carpenter’s glue directly onto her body and, occasionally, onto the bodies of close friends. Once dry, the thin casts are peeled away and sewn together by hand. The process transforms the familiar act of coating the skin with glue and removing the dried layer into a surface that retains bodily impressions and traces of contact.
Suspended from a metal framework, the assembled membrane encloses and filters the light. Beneath it, the artist’s hair, collected between 2019 and 2024, is distributed across a rectangular bed of soil, forming a dark, displaced counterpart to the illuminated body above. The installation constructs a self-portrait through imprint rather than likeness: a body registered through accumulated traces, material memory and contact with others.
